Health and Safety at Work

Display Screen Equipment (DSE) assessments are a requirement of Health and Safety regulations in the UK.

Ensuring good workstation set-up and providing effective training can form part of the approach in the prevention and management of pain and injury in the workplace. This can include conditions such as back pain and work related upper limb disorders such as repetitive strain injury and carpal tunnel syndrome.

I provide three types of ergonomics assessment, outlined below, depending on your requirements.

Simple workstation assessment

Designed as a risk assessment, ensures compliance with computer Health and Safety regulations. Suitable for users without any significant pain or disability.

Conducted at the individual’s workstation, each assessment provides:

  • Work risk assessment
  • Seated postural analysis
  • Postural training and task management
  • Report outlining any suggested modifications
  • Duration: 30 minutes

Advanced workstation assessment

Designed for those with ongoing or recurrent pain, often requested as part of ongoing medical management. Combining a clinical history and workstation assessment allows specific ergonomic solutions to be provided.

Conducted in a private interview room and at the individual’s workstation, each assessment provides:

  • Clinical history
  • Workstation assessment and detailed task analysis
  • Seated postural analysis
  • Postural training and task management
  • Comprehensive report detailing ergonomic solutions
  • Telephone and email follow up
  • Duration: 1 hour

Clinical Workstation assessment

Designed for those with ongoing or recurrent pain, this assessment provides an in depth analysis of an individual’s situation. Combining a clinical history, physical examination and workstation assessment allows management strategies and complex ergonomic solutions to be provided.

Can be used to supplement ongoing medical care or to begin the process of medical management.

Conducted in a clinical examination room and at the individual’s workstation each assessment provides:

  • Clinical history
  • Physical examination including postural assessment, functional movement assessment and any relevant clinical testing e.g. joint range of movement, muscle testing and neural tension tests
  • Workstation assessment and detailed task analysis
  • Seated postural analysis
  • Postural training and task management
  • Comprehensive report detailing ergonomic solutions and pain management strategy
  • Telephone and email follow up
  • Follow up training session available
