What is Mindfulness?
We all have the capacity to be present, simply and wholeheartedly, to ourselves, our environment and those around us. This is mindfulness, an ability or skill that can be learned by anyone.
At its heart mindfulness is a quality of relationship that involves being aware of any experience with curiosity, acceptance and kindness. Far from being a “soft touch” this is a radically different approach to dealing with stress and difficulty that science is beginning to show can make a real difference to health and well being.
Why Practice Mindfulness?
When we examine our experience we can see that how we relate to whatever we are
facing plays a large part in how that effects us. Mindfulness practice allows us to untangle the patterns of stress and confusion that we all encounter, improving our ability to engage creatively with what we are experiencing.
Some additional reported benefits include:
- Improved ability to manage stress.
- Enhanced capacity to handle difficult emotions.
- Improved ability to relax and concentrate.
- Greater sense of balance and well being.
